take a hike

I've jumped on the bandwagon with the whole "Go Green" campaign and have read and am still reading books with naturesque themes. There's something wholesome about reading about how people manage to catch and harvest fresh food without having to rely on commercial industrialization; not to mention, organic means of securing foodstuffs is a lot healthier than the cost-efficient large-scale "manufacturing" of edible products.
Thank goodness for Trader Joe's though. They have cheap organic produce and "healthy" junk food. All in all, even though farmer's markets are a bit more on the pricey end versus your local grocer, it pays to get your food there, lest you rob yourselves in a food connoisseur type-of-way by going to a regular supermarket. Plus, most chefs go to farmer's markets to get local produce to make their dishes that much more exquisite and extraordinary. I have a newfound respect for farmers after reading these books (I have yet to read the last book) because let's face it, farming is fkn toiling in the soil and it's damn hard work. Luckily, living in California has afforded me the opportunity to have seasonal produce year-round.
So get in touch with nature and take a hike through these books. The first book is actually very stellar in that the author intertwines a plot line with scientific studies and pertinent dog psychology facts. You won't be disappointed!
Happy Friday!
