my heart is doing somersaults...

I typically look up my daily horoscope on elle.com since that magazine is notoriously spot-on with my astrological calendar. Here is what today's horoscope revealed to me:

GEMINI
May 21 - June 21

TUESDAY MAR 30, 2010

Your heart is doing somersaults, but your expression belies nothing. What gives, Gemini? You’re waiting for the right time to reveal your feelings, but this strategy could lead to missed opportunities. In truth, it’s a lot less painful to be “rejected” than it is to wonder eternally, “what it?” Today, take the risk of showing that you care. Things will get mighty interesting if you do.

How much foreshadowing can I get??!! I've been experiencing heart palpitations and "flutters" since Friday, so I decided to pay a visit to my doctor's. She ordered an EKG for my appointment-I am a tad bit nervous, but interested in knowing how the procedure will go with all the paper electrodes pasted onto my chest. I am praying this is nothing serious! I hope my heart flutters are a result of my working out too hard or undergoing severe stress at work. Pray for me!

I 'heart' you (gulp),
P

P.S. The second portion of my horoscope definitely pertains to what is going on at work----DRAMA! What ever happened to the days of refined soft skills and good ole' fashioned HARD WORK?
At any rate, I did take the risk at work and showed that I care, and I think it paid off!

Is bragging healthy?

I've always opted for the modest, humble route when it came to personal achievements and accolades; however, recently, I have been introspective about some of the things that come out of my mouth and how that can be perceived by others because I find myself becoming annoyed when someone toots his/her own horn. I mean, I get it-you are the shiet, you are omnipotent, you are god...I think Ke$ha could not have said (sang) it any better: "Talk-talkin' 'bout...BLAH, BLAH BLAH!" I find it utterly confusing on where to delineate the lines between informing someone of your accomplishments/attributes versus bragging about them. There is also the issue of becoming too clandestine about your assets or humble to the point of meekness in the workplace when one should exercise the concept of "personal branding" in order to gain mobility and leverage in climbing that cliche corporate ladder.

I found this excerpt from Internet surfing in my committed attempt to often conduct personal inventories of myself in order to become a better person:

Bragging is a sign of arrogance, overconfidence and insecurity. Not many people want to be in the company of a person who constantly pats himself on the back and most would agree that it is much more attractive to remain modest and humble. So if you find yourself consuming the majority of your conversations with the wonderful things you have done in your life, the awesome things you have done for others, believing a talented or well-behaved child makes you a great parent or putting your affections for your spouse on display for others to see, stop yourself in your tracks and take a deep look within. There you will find that your bragging rights are nothing more than cover ups to hide the lack of security you feel about yourself, your relationship or your lack of success in certain areas of your life. (http://socyberty.com/society/bragging-rights/)

If anyone is out there in cyberspace and you happen to stumble across this post, let me know your thoughts on bragging; better yet, let me know if a Facebook status update is too much of a good thing in terms of bragging to the rest of the cyber universe about how great you are.

Ovo

All I have to say is, "REMARKABLE"! Lats and I caught the Hump Day show tonight and I am envious of the talent out there in this world of ours.

I conducted a little research on the show itself- I was very interested in the cast bios- and I found the following information regarding "The Grand Chapiteau":

THE SITE

The Cirque du Soleil mobile "village" includes the Grand Chapiteau (Big Top), artistic tent, entrance tents, VIP tent, box office, kitchen, school, office trailers, warehouses and more.

180,000 square feet (4.2 Acres or 17,000 square meters) is needed to house the entire site including the tents and trailers.

The artistic tent is 1,300 square feet (120 square meters) and houses areas for: wardrobe, warm up and training, physiotherapy and dressing rooms.

It takes 11 days for more than 200 workers, including 100 hired locally, to complete a city to city transfer of the infrastructures.

It takes 7 days to set up the site and all the infrastructures and it takes 2 days to completely tear it down.

This represents at least 11 000 man hours which represents 5.5 years of work if one guy did it alone!

An average of 55 tractor trailers are needed to carry more than 2 million pounds of equipment from city to city.

Completely self-sufficient for electrical power, the site relies only on a local water supply and telecommunication facilities to support its infrastructure.

THE GRAND CHAPITEAU (BIG TOP)

The Grand Chapiteau measures 165 feet (50 meters) in diameter and is supported by four 82-foot-high (25 meters) steel masts.

The Grand Chapiteau is comprised of 18 pieces of flame retardant vinyl canvas and is manufactured in Bordeaux, France by Voileries du Sud-Ouest, internationally renowned for their big tops.

The climate-controlled Grand Chapiteau seats more than 2,500 people.

The Big Top is held down by roughly 400 stakes, 5' (1.5 meters) nails.

The cupola is 52 ft (16 meters) above the ground.

The Big Top can support winds up to 75 miles/h (120 km/h).

A Big Top lifespan is about ten years, depending on the conditions of use (storage, temperature and frequency of setup/tear-down).

The Big Top infrastructure costs roughly $1.6 million. This does not include the stands or the other tents.
